Boomkat Product Review:
The second taster of US duo Teengirl Fantasy’s long-awaited sophomore album ‘Tracer’, ‘EFX’ is a sickly FM-synth driven photofit of contemporary R&B led by a woozy vocal courtesy of Kelela. Somehow these vocals give Takahashi and Weiss the focus they need, translating their lo-fidelity dance shuffle a much-needed anchor and allowing it to excel simply as pop music. The duo have always had a penchant for weird pop, and ‘EFX’ might be the first time they’ve crafted something you could see nudging into even mainstream radio. Neon-flecked, synthetic pop doesn’t get much more addictive.
