Boomkat Product Review:
Mysterious UK producer U trades in a sort of tempered beatdown drug chug upon return to Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound after five years away
U wades perpendicular to peak times with two sludgy sluggers perhaps best aimed at the warm up or the sunlight-peeking-thru-curtains hours. ‘Ecstasy’ staggers forth with a slow but powerful momentum built from tumbled toms and heavy breathing side-chained effects and thizzing vocals that conjure a sort of wind tunnel drag force or the feeling of bopping with heavy legs 12 hours into the session. ‘Morpheus’ emphasises this after-hours rave appeal with much starker string hits and bruised bass that congeals into a slow boogie off to the side of Actress’ Thriller bits.
