Boomkat Product Review:
Oozing with quality, the latest in The Eccentric Soul's series on the Numero Group aims its twinkly view on the little known soul label Bandit - an independent imprint that operated in the Chicago area between 1969 and 1981. As always, the liner notes are thoroughly comprehensive and feature all manner of fantastic imagery and factual nuggets - meaning even the novices amongst us can have a full working knowledge of Bandit within an hour or two. Run from the house of Arrow Brown and featuring the likes of Altyrone Deno Brown (Arrows seven year old son) and the Majestic Arrows, the music collated here is bombastic and lashed with melancholy - resulting in a sound which is fiery and bold, yet never histrionic. With each of the twenty tracks here sounding like the kind of long lost classic that eats up people's lives in dusty basements, artists such as Linda Balintine and Johnny Davis will blow your socks off. Stand and deliver!
