Boomkat Product Review:
‘Seminal art thrashers’ (that’s what their website says anyway), These Arms Are Snakes are a Seattle four-piece comprised of personnel from the bands Botch, Kill Sadie and Nineironspitfire. TAAS surely have the best (or rather, least awful) name of all the members’ various side projects though, because whether intentionally or otherwise they bring to mind Hulk Hogan’s “24-inch pythons”, which is fairly comical if nothing else. As for the songs themselves, ‘Child Chicked Play’ sounds not unlike a stuttering revision of Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Zero’ while ‘Abracadabra’ comes across like a Mike Patton collaboration with Muse: all blood-curdling wailing and baroque, pitchshifted guitar. By the time we get to final track, ‘Crazy Woman Dirty train', we’re in a peculiar stop-start alt-nu-metal territory.
