Boomkat Product Review:
Chirpy popsters Ear Pwr are back on Car Park for their second record and while it might be markedly more ‘mature’ (read : developed) than their quirky debut ‘Super Animal Brothers III’ they haven’t lost their naïve charm. I suppose you could lump the band into the loose chillwave genre, but there’s a little more to this duo than simply a handful of Animal Collective ripoffs and lo fidelity recording – hell they’re not even that lo-fi at all. At times I’m thinking Beach House (‘Baby Houses’), at times I’m thinking Deerhoof (‘National Parks’) and at others the record sounds like a cross between a lost Minimal Wave record and Antena’s classic ‘Camino Del Sol’. Surprisingly with all that blended together into a pop smoothie the result it surprisingly endearing, and this is a collection of songs that won’t leave the mind too quickly.
