Standard Planets & Arthur's Landing
Dumbo, Miracle
"Fresh from their debut release - a collaboration with kraut legend Harald Grosskopf (RVNG, Sky) (Ashra Tempel, Manuel Gottsching, Klaus Schulze), Standard Planets release their second single, a collaboration with Arthur's Landing: a collective of musicians who worked extensively with revered avant-disco producer Arthur Russell throughout his life. The A side of the release is a never before recorded or released Arthur Russell song 'Dumbo Dumbo'. Arthur attempted this song during the infamous CBS/Dinosaur L recording sessions of 1978 but was abandoned for reasons unbeknownst. All that remains of the song is in the memory of the musicians who worked with Arthur during this recording session, and together Standard Planets and Arthur's Landing have produced a piece that brings to life this long-forgotten gem. This is not an exercise in musical archaeology but does in fact attempt to embody Arthur's sense of exploration, wonderment and constant reinterpretation, with this the only known recording of this song."
