Boomkat Product Review:
Some very shady goings on from the Sun City Girls camp here. Dulce was a film directed by Hachiro Maki, supposedly "an associate" of the notorious Aum Shinrikyo cult (since renamed as Aleph) who came to global attention after their 1995 Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway. The band managed to recruit some help from Japanese rock behemoths The Ruins and avant-garde violinist Eyvind Kang for this project, resulting in a great deal of depth and improvisational clout all round. If you can tolerate - or better yet dismiss altogether - Alan Bishop's controversy-courting back-story (isn't there just the slightest chance this is all made up anyway?) there are some engaging, rabble-rousing stretches of culture-clash free-rock strewn across this album.
