Boomkat Product Review:
Stone cold classic Horace Andy dubs set, sourced from a golden era and originally collected in 2002
Timeless is the word for ‘Rare Dubs 1973-1976’, a dozen diamonds recorded at Channel 1, Randy’s Studio 17, Harry’s, and King Tubby’s, and featuring only slivers of the great vocalist diffused into the echo chamber matrix, tune-to-tune.
Bass and drums forward, Horace’s mellifluous croon is duppified and elusive, threaded alongside Augustus Pablo’s woozy keyboard vamps in ‘Dub Larking’, and lurking lonesome in ‘Dub Angel’ - both early versions of tunes made famous by his work with Massive Attack - or found psychedelic as fuck in the recursive contrails of ‘Dub Say Who’ and the heavy troddin’ lament ‘Use This Dub’. The definition of an evergreen.
