Boomkat Product Review:
*Exclusive cuts from Julia Holter, Sun Araw, Dem Hunger, Ssaliva, Odd Nosdam, Dntel and much more* A canny marriage: Stones Throw present an ace collection of exclusive cuts from the exploratory Leaving Records library. Spanning the work of Julia Holter, Sun Araw, Dem Hunger, Ssaliva, Odd Nosdam, Dntel, Run DMT and many more (20 total), it's gotta be the most experimental collection Stones Throw have associated themselves with. But, that said, it clearly fits with the label's beat-driven and innovative ethos. If we're picking highlights then Julia Holter's live tribute to Arthur Russell, 'You & Me Both' (from 'Calling Out Of Context') is a biggie, drawing a really obvious parallel which we've stupidly never realised before, while Cameron Stallones is at his freaky finest on the blunted, angular dubbing of 'Right Off', and there's no denying the primal bump and fuzz of Dem Hunger's wheezy 'Glue Suit'. Run DMT also impress with the stoned, raga-like dissonance of 'Bardo States Dream Walker Version', and Ssaliva treats us to the hyper new age flurry of 'Conga Dawn' beside a really tidy synth-funk skew 'Cooked Love, Lady Bomb' and the KGB Man-gone-Footwork styles of Lapti's 'Peace'.
