The third collaboration between cellist Sara Oswald and producer Feldermelder, 'Dual | Duel' is a grandiose set of hybrid electro-classical industrial electronics that should appeal to fans of Miasmah and Sonic Pieces.
Oswald is a gifted Cellist who's composed extensively for film and theater, as well as collaborating with various bands and solo artists. With A/V expert Feldermelder she's found a good match, and over the course of the last two albums they've worked together to develop a sound that's orchestral, but not strictly classical music.
Oswald's cello sounds almost electronic on many of these compositions, folding into Feldermelder's modular gurgles and almost disappearing completely. On the epic opening track 'Transpersonal Source', Oswald sounds as if she's guiding the piece, but philosophically rather than sonically, her bowed wails informing Feldermelder's industrial growls. Her contributions are more physical on 'Everything Vibrating is an Illusion', where staccato plucks and dissonant scrapes swirl around muddled bleeps and glassy textures.
Fans of David Darling, Erik K. Skodvin or Yair Elazar Glotman should check.
