Boomkat Product Review:
Overproof breakbeat ‘ardcore from UK ’92, mercifully reissued after 2nd prices have escalated beyond the reach of your average raver.
Both sides firmly represent the rapid flux of ideas, emerging technology and rave styles of 1992, post its house and breaks roots, and prior to fragmenting into myriad new patterns.
In Drop This they push the editing and filtering envelope with strobing top lines and ruthlessly rugged breaks laced to a rampant Belgian-style hoover, turning your limbs inside out and twisting heads to gurn-worthy effect, especially when it all doubles up in crazy time during the 2nd half. Likewise, Higher is a tremendous demonstration of ‘ardcore competitive/artistic flair, serrating the breaks in tail-chasing figures with hyper voices, time-stretched breakdowns and ravenous Italo pianos.
Gwarn ya dancer.
