Boomkat Product Review:
A fresh new drop on TVO's Broken20 from fellow Patrick Walker, one half of dark 'n stripped techno standard-bearers Forward Strategy Group, in his experimental, dub-conscious Isodyne guise. For all you insatiable fans of gauzy, gaseous post-BC atmospherics this stuff is an instant winner. The ceaseless forward momentum and industrial finish of 'Burn It All To Ashes' is reminiscent of the Sandwell album's murkier passages, while 'River Of Ruin' channels GAS and his Pop Ambient kin, and the wind-swept, frost-bitten 'Sentinel' could be a lost track from Echospace's The Coldest Season. The dub-tech tropes are largely familiar then, but Walker is working within a respected and durable tradition; the most addictive cut arrives late on in the shape of 'Answer To No One', a minimal warehouse bruiser driven by an itchy one-note synth-line and closely resembling the work of FSG. But it's label boss TVO who steals the show, rounding out the EP with a superb remix of 'Sentinel' in harmonically rich and rhythmically inventive style - imagine Gerard Hanson on a dusky steppers' tip.
