Boomkat Product Review:
DFA complete the set of Black Meteoric Star tracks onto vinyl with 'Dreamcatcher/Dawn' on the third and final 12" from the album. Gavin Russom has created a unique tribute to the early days of synth and drum machine experimentation with this project, inhabiting the spirits of everyone from Giorgio Moroder to Ron Hardy with hypnotically brilliant effects. 'Dreamcatcher' is another undiluted jam at 120bpm, sounding like a lo-fi Moroder tripout with gorgeous arpeggiations swirling in a pool of shallow resonant tape hiss. 'Dawn' on the flip is the slowest track on the album, a sub 100bpm psyched electro-soul groove with cracking handclaps and an uncompromisingly lo-fi attitude. Dead cool.
