Boomkat Product Review:
Oh No hits up the latest Stones Throw winner with a heavy instrumental album created from a source of strictly Ethiopian samples. With the amount of attention given to Mulatu Astatke and the Ethiopiques series right now, it's clearly apparent that he's really picked up on the zeitgeist, which could have meant a cynical cash-in, but thankfully he's turned up a massive set of killer bangers ranking among the more interesting hiphop productions of '09. From the scythe-swiped samples of 'Adventure' to the Dilla-esque lollop of 'Fuego Tribe' and pitched treatments of the brilliant 'Funeral Parlor' the kid done good throughout, maintaining a suitably ruffneck approach with nuff scratchy vinyl crackle and rugged edits to keep even the most hardened nodders happy. Recommended!
