Boomkat Product Review:
Applepips looks close to home again with two dubbed out Bristol boogie swaggers. They're the work of local types, Lrusse aka ID, the Behling to Sam Baobinga's Simpson, and the man like Bleeker aka Wedge, boss and producer for If Symptoms Persist. Up top they roll with crisp breakbeats and swanging bass at some jungle-boogie-on-33 flex, with the slower tempo allowing more room to fill in the gaps with tight drum fills, wicked reversed hooks and deft spatial dynamics, recently deployed by Will Saul in his BBC Radio 1 Essential mix. Down below, 'Stairwell' cuts a moodier figure with lopped-off acid bass prods and crunchier drums on a strutting vector matched by proggier synth arrangement.
