Boomkat Product Review:
You see what he's done there with the title? Clever boy... The undisputed highlight of his recent 'Resilience' LP, 'Done With the Scene' sees Kid606 ditching the shredded digitalis for an altogether more operatic sound; at once finely detailed and shamelessly grandstanding, closing with a finale that deserves its own firework display. Following this is the new track 'Heartbeat', which takes a sedimentary post-rock template and allows it to incrementally blossom, sounding not unlike Mogwai crossed with Global Goon, before the remixes commence with (guess who!) an appearance from those geniuses Mogwai. Fancy that! Taking 'Done With the Scene' and riddling it with electronic buckshot and a throaty set of breaks, Mogwai sound more like classic Kid606 than Kid606 now does himself, leading to a well judged scalpel job that offers a perfect contrast to the original. These guys have never been anything other than heartstoppingly great. Elsewhere, Dwayne Sodahberk's double-take on 'King of Harm' jacks the guitars up to 11, Her Space Holiday's string-lashed version of 'Spanish Song' is a gorgeous few minutes that shows Blue States how it should be done, whilst bravecaptain's recast of the title track is just grand. Romeo done!
