Boomkat Product Review:
Based on 1991's Dondestan, 1998's Dondestan (revisited) is Wyatt's attempt to remake the album, resulting in a different sequencing of the tracklist and remixed songs.
When the original version of the album emerged it was hailed by some as his finest work since Rock Bottom, and this revised version of the record remains a fascinating entry into his discography, with just about every arrangement entirely and single-handedly performed by Wyatt himself. The lyrics don't come from such insular beginnings however, and Wyatt reached out to his wife Alfreda Benge for some of the verbal inspiration, lifting from her poetry. Benge's contributions serve as an interesting counterpoint to Wyatt's own, whimsically articulated, politically driven verses, addressing such issues as Palestine, privatization and globalization. Recommended.
