Boomkat Product Review:
Punch Drunk make a concession to the mutant Funky sound with two brilliant synth-rich cuts from Shortstuff and Hyetal. On the title track both producers are at their spikiest and most synthetic, jarring toxic bursts of synth and subass inflations against rigid robo-funk rhythms in a style something like Untold loosened by Peverelist. On the flip, 'Ice Cream' is a more blatantly funked-up exercise, marrying piquant boogie licks with swinging percussion in a Blunted Robots style but driven by a subbass line that puts this cut firmly on the dubstep side of the dancefloor fence. It's great to see Punch Drunk getting involved with styles beyond their typical remit while keeping their dub-rooted mandate somewhat intact. Big.
