Boomkat Product Review:
Mancunian indie rock types It's A Buffalo expand on their repertoire with Don't Be Scared, the debut album that follows up on singles like 'Divorce Song' and 'Broken Toy' (both of which are included here), shifting their emphasis away from the more country & western influenced fare of old into more modern dimensions, as heard on album opener 'Marbles' with its faintly zeitgeisty guitar riffing (it's all rather Vampire Weekend-ish somehow) and the none-more-janglesome 'Seaslide'. Also sounding rather good is 'Climb Climb', which draws inspiration from The Coral, sporting articulate lead guitar lines that help the track stand out from the less discerning entries here, such as the Telecaster-bashing dirge of 'Run And Hide', which almost certainly makes more sense live than on record. Of late these guys have been building their rep outside their hometown thanks to dates with fellow Manchester residents The Courteeners, and there's every chance you'll be hearing a good deal more from this bunch over the coming months.
