Dolls (Original Soundtrack)
Fuzzbee Morse's carnivalesque, synth-heavy soundtrack to Stuart Gordon's 1987 horror fairytale 'Dolls' finally gets a proper reissue.
If you caught WRWTFWW Records' release of the presumed lose 'Ghoulies II' OST last year, you'll beed this one. 'Dolls' was multi-instrumentalist and composer Morse's first soundtrack, and was written only a year before 'Ghoulies II'; the film itself, directed by 'Re-Animator' auteur Gordon was a lot better, and certainly more influential, spawning the 'Puppetmaster' series, among others. And the soundtrack itself is worth a closer look, too. Morse, who's worked with everyone from Daniel Lanois and Robert Wyatt to Bono and Frank Zappa, sounds like he's ready to chew the scenery, taking pointers from Gordon's fairytale imagery and creating eerie artificial lullabies that avoid the usual '80s horror tropes. If you're into Richard Band's classic scores, this one's a doozy.
