Boomkat Product Review:
The impeccable Meanwhile imprint springs forth with the final chapter in the Quantec 'Distant Space' series from Sven Schienhammer. With the meanwhile label recieving a lot of focus at the moment, including a brilliant podcast for Resident Advisor this week, the label show that they have polished a very focussed sound with a strict line in deepest dub house and techno for the hardcore heads, leading onto probably the finest track on the label in some time in the form of 'Electromagnetic Pulse'. This is the sound of Quantec succinctly honing his skills to produce a pure Berghain/Dettmann & Klock style pounder, with the upmost respect. The bottom-end contains those thick, slightly muffled but still powerfully effective kickdrums with a touch of reverb to sound awesome through a big system, and in the upper echelons the glancing hi-hats are surrounded by a sweaty mist of dub effervescence and meditative dub chords that will work so well in the right situations. 'Specters' on the flip has a slightly rougher aesthetic with abrasive dub licks swirling about a cool dub tech track, but for all the club heads you only need the A-side. Very good indeed.
