Boomkat Product Review:
The seemingly limitless yet coherent tastes of Mexican Summer land upon this mystical, subtly captivating sophomore LP by Mike Wexler. 'Dispossession' is curiously Folk-wise yet refreshingly not beholden to tradition. There's a wide-listening, cosmically-attuned mind at work striving to synchronise songcraft with elemental electronics and the spontaneous freedom of improvisation. He's joined by guests cropped from the fields of underground rock (ex members of White Magic and The Occasion) and free improvisation (Ryan Sawyer, Nate Wooley, Jessica Pavone) to realise his ambitious and singular vision, resulting in an album which recalls the work of auteurs such as Robert Wyatt, Scott Walker, or Richard Youngs, but with genuinely individual voice and subtle feel for strange, wonderous dissonance and layered composition. One listen to the samples should tell you that this is a unique and intriguing prospect. Tip!
