Boomkat Product Review:
Released on his own Daly City imprint, 'Disko Donkey' is perhaps the most restrained of David Wang's work under the Mochipet moniker. Indeed only a few weeks ago we saw him proclaiming that 'Girls Love Breakcore', so it seems unusual to find this cd absolutely breakcore free. Of course, it's still mad as a march hare, but this madness is channelled into filthy electro-pop (hell, even the filth Queen herself Ellen Allien turns up for a look in) and slightly funky disco. This is the sort of music I suppose that what we used to know as IDM has slowly become, as the bedroom producers have stepped out of their bedrooms and looked at the outside world they have discovered the call of the dancefloor and decided it's better to try and get girls than confuse everyone else. Included on top of the eight-track album is a huge selection of remixes from Wang's compadres including a killer dancefloor cut from [a]pendics Shuffle and a choppy slice of sleazy R&B/electronica from Phon.o. Not what you'd expect, and all the better for it!
