Boomkat Product Review:
'Disk II' is a milestone of sorts for Matthewdavid's Leaving Records, clearing his hard drive of unreleased ambient music created and compiled since the label's very first release back in 2008. Working with his friends Eola, Run DMT, and Speculator, it features nine tracks of richly emotive and shapeshifting ambient electronics "designed for invested listening experience and immersion, not only just background ambiance and noise." It's no wishy-washy new age set. There's a tangibly more modern sense of psychedelic awareness at play, a sort of malleable lo-fi dynamic which alludes to the practitioners of yore, yet distances itself with an experimental, post-modern detachment and taste for oversaturated noise. But make no mistake, it's still totally lush: there are fathomless layers of microscopic plankton-like detail to get hooked on and the melodic intent is still pure of heart. Imagine Dolphins Into The Future and OPN stranded on a pacific island with only fermented coconut milk for sustenance and they might make music like this.
