Boomkat Product Review:
A small but perfectly formed overview of the Digitalis label's current stable, this new sampler calls upon five key acts from the roster, showcasing the Digitalis Industries empire in all its breadth. Guitarist Scott Tuma joins forces with Zelienople drummer Mike Weis on the first track, establishing a kind of ambient Americana that's halfway between Loren Connors and Brian Eno. Moving deeper into musical anaesthesia, Concern embark upon the blissful drone of 'Young Birth', merging a swirl of organ tones with subtle flecks of sonic debris for a memorable four minutes of horizontal stasis. Up next, Barn Owl bring a doomy thread of instrumental metal to the tracklist, sounding like Earth at the peak of their knuckle-dragging minimalism. Social Junk move into a more abstract direction, snipping vocal phrases and various half-formed electronic melodies, whisking everything together in a belligerently percussive blender - it's like a tribal, noise-centric strand of krautrock. Finally, Green Blossoms cleanse the palate with a concise burst of acoustic J-pop, wrapping up a well-proportioned and exceedingly enjoyable playlist.
