Dendritas Oscilantes
Lima's always-on-point Buh branch out even further with this one, introducing young Peruvian artist Valentín Causillas Pease's DIY grindcore-gabber-noise project Ayarwhaska. RIYL Harry Pussy, Narcosis, Scorn, Fantomas, Sissy Spacek.
Holed up in his bedroom in Lima, Causillas Peas began masterminding Ayarwhaska when he was still a teeenager, studying Peruvian industrial/techno outfit Insumisión, Yamantaka Eye's noise project Hanatarash and Harry Pussy. His debut album plays like a no-fi answer to all those ideas; it's not pretty, but it's constantly creative. Causillas Peas drowns out machinegunned 200bpm beats with rabid screams on opener 'XXX Rated Speed Grindcore', collaging muffled vocal samples with freeform guitar improvisations, blues riffs and off-axis live drum distortions on 'Matas El Pueblo Por El Que Luchas'. Confidently surreal, it's an album that never takes itself too seriously, balancing sloppy hardcore with smoove sax on 'Puti Jazz' and lurching into daytime TV anthem feedback melt on 'Torturados Serán Los Alzados'.
It sounds as if Causillas Pease is channel hopping thru his psyche, dissolving anime themes, 16-bit fanfares and 'ardcore remnants on the batshit 'Desasosiego2000', and muddying pedestrian pop-rock with grotesque concrète processes on 'Psykodemia!!(asko)'. It's not often that we hear extreme music that's attempting to break from convention - trust Buh to deliver the goods.
