You never know where Pat Murano is going with the Decimus series, but we're quite happy to follow his psychedelic dérive wherever he wants to take us. This one starts out with what sounds like the looped and panned resonance of a low-bit rate internet stream over murky bass splodges, building and receding just out of focus to a mind-swilling kosmische swirl sounding like absolutely nobody else out there right now. And it does feel like right now; you get the sense that these sounds wouldn't have come out in this shape at any other time. They're hypnagogic but with an untethered freedom, space and clarity beyond almost any of the H-set, and if you peer in close enough there's rhythms you can almost swing with or flop to. Imagine a jam between Hype Williams, Diamond Catalog, Skaters and Conrad Schnitzler conducted in a sauna, and then go way beyond that and you're almost in earshot of this sound. "Dark psychedelia formulated by Pat Murano (No Neck Blues Band, Malkuth, K-Salvatore & Key of Shame) deigned to alternately disorient and elate by synthetic means. 5th in a series of 12 LPs dedicated to the zodiac of Decimus Magnus Ausonious."
