Boomkat Product Review:
Bvdub is an alias of producer Brock Van Wey, and his album, Daydreams Of Exile, arrived in 2007, and now gets a richly deserved re-introduction thanks to this digital edition. Fans of ambient-inflected dub-techno should take note, as Van Wey's work here situates itself somewhere between the classic sonic idioms of Chain Reaction and Gas, throwing in the more modern, propulsive aspects of Yagya and The Sight Below. After the wonderful opener 'Winter 1974', the hazy immersion continues with 'Nothing You Can Say', whose full-blooded, crisp beats soon give way to the blizzard conditions of 'Dreams Of Reykjavik' and 'Somewhere Far Away'. These final two pieces keep some semblance of rhythmic motion thanks to the very Voigt-ian kick track, but the beautifully textured swirl beneath is what makes Van Wey's productions so absorbing.
