Dancing Choose
We've no need to remind you of how painfully cool TV On The Radio are right now, but unlike most other bands lumbered with the tag, TVOTR actually do OWN things in 2009. Their 'Dear Science' LP is an immediate hit upon first listen, but like the rest of their catalogue will live up to many repeated listens, and many will come right back to 'Dancing Choose', the lead track for this second single lifted from the album. It's a typically exuberant TVOTR cut, with the flailing limbs of Jaleel Bunton combining complex rhythms and programming to provide the motorik drive, while an ever rising horn section controlled by uber-producer Dave Sitek takes the track to it's natural conclusion while Tunde Adebimpe delivers a positively glowing vocal performance. 'Make Love All Night Long' is a delightfully seductive and gospel/Afrobeat tinged paean to bedroom stamina, skillfully avoiding any sleazy sonic connotations with decidedly upbeat and celebratory vocal harmonics. Telepathe's remix of 'Crying' manages to displace the band from noughties NY to an enhanced disco future somewhere in central Europe circa 1982, taking elements of Italo discoid electronics and shifting the band squarely onto modern disco floors, leaving Prefuse 73 to completely reimagine 'Dancing Choose' as a multi faceted art rocker, constantly mutating the groove from squashed hiphop to double timed rushes and upping the ante with oscillating crescendos while remarkably retaining the song's original structure and direct effect. Awesome.
