Boomkat Product Review:
Vex Ruffin is a curveball addition to the diverse Stone Throws roster. He's notably the first and only artist to be signed to the label after an unsolicited demo and makes a potently scuzzy, minimalist sort of Punk with guitars, vocals, and unusually enough, a SP 303 sampler - a purchase inspired by Madlib. Imagine If James Pants got blunted with Tropic Of Cancer and you're pretty close to his sound, which combines sparse, reverbed drum samples, either full breakbeats or rickety coldwave rhythms, and simple riffs with a concise post-punk-pop instinct. Make sure to check the morose 'Sacrifice' and the PiL-esque 'i'm Creative'. Very promising stuff.
