Boomkat Product Review:
One of L.I.E.S.’ wonkiest operators fixes up one of his straightest and “danceable” slabs yet for the NYC/Paris-based label.
Well, we say “straightest” in reference to the his crisply defined rhythms, which are notably more stripped and direct than usual, but the corresponding layers of electronics are still lysergic and shifty as ever, turning up some DJ and dancer-friendly highlights in the likes of his Shangaan-style stepper Chinatown, with the bilgy swagger of Convoy, and the psychedelic disco-spiked flavours of Flipper and Following The Man.
“As with much of Copeland's music we get hard to swallow beauty that tests the limits and plays with the emotions, like a bad sunburn or eating an ecoli kebab, yet finding out you won a million dollars the same day. Is it a day at the beach or a week in the emergency room? Make sense? We thought not.”
