Boomkat Product Review:
Schneider TM's work has always gravitated towards the industrial, the cosmic, so it's a natural conclusion to hear him reconcile those elements so literally with 'Construction Sounds', an album built entirely from location recordings of Berlin's numerous baustelle. With little editing he lets overlaps and accentuates the sounds with his own electronics recordings resulting an immersive cacophony which sounds every bit as good as you'd imagine. Dirk says: "This is an album based on field recordings of construction sites that i made between 2001 and 2009 whilst living and working in one of the most vibrant renovation areas of Berlin. The idea for this project came along when i realised that my own, mostly improvised electronic music started to imitate the sounds and structures of the construction sites that i was surrounded by for so many years, up to 15 hours a day, 6 days a week and which drove me to the brink of mental meltdown every once in a while. To keep sane, i started recording and kind of enjoying the sounds and patterns which the construction workers were creating and realised that they consciously or unconciously also used their tools as sound devices and even reacted to each other in ways which could be perceived as improvised music."
