Boomkat Product Review:
Dark Entries rescue from obscurity the best of West Midlands-based wave duo, Alan Rider and Phil Clarke. Formed in 1981, both ran their own fanzines; Alan in Coventry with "Adventures In Reality" and Phil in Nuneaton with "Damn Latin", and obviously shared affections for the post punk and synth pop poisons of Depeche Mode, Joy Division and Cabaret Voltaire. 'Conspiracy Theory' collects eleven of their best cuts from 1983-1985. To be honest, the vocals grate on me a bit, but they're not enough to distract from the raw qualities of their best work on the likes of 'Rule Of Force' with its bright melodies and perky rhythm, on the sample-laden dancefloor ace 'Tear It Down' and the urgent, spiky 'The Prayer Clock'.
