Dag Rosenqvist And Simon Scott
Conformists (Music For A Film)
Conformists' is a remarkable soundtrack composed by Dag Rosenqvist aka Jasper TX and Simon Scott (formerly of Slowdive), intended to accompany a film of the same name. Dag was only provided with a handful of storyboard images before filmmaker Juriaan Booij tasked him with creating the score. Due to uncertainties about the actual completion of the film, the two musicians essentially completed their recordings based on a film they imagined would be made, not knowing if it would ever come to fruition. The result is a ghostly, washed-out suite of instrumentals ripe with the ethereal sonic imagery their music is cherished for. The ten tracks are underlined with a latent sense of dread and menace but not without the nuanced sense of subtlety that marks their work out from the crowds of operators in this field. With both sets of hands at work you can expect a more diverse range of textures and tones than either artist normally captures individually, ranging from blistered noise sculptures to decaying, half-forgotten aural memories and amorphous ambient sweeps, all hugely evocative of something deliciously indistinct and abstract. Lovely.
