Boomkat Product Review:
Perhaps inevitably, R&S give James Blake's rerun of Trim's 'Condidence Boost' a proper release, backing it with another Blake-Trim head-to-head, 'Saying'. The Harmonimix version of 'Confidence Boost' has been floating around for a fair old while, and it's still thoroughly compelling - Blake applies serious vocal science to Trim's world-weary flow, looping and re-looping him into a veritable chipmunk choir, before subtly building to a climax at once ecstatic and heartbreaking. 'Saying' is more conventional but no less satisfying: Trim's laconic bars are left largely untouched, and strapped to an incredible beat and harmonic structure that effortlessly navigate all-out abstraction and terse, radio-friendly rollage. Sensuous but street-tough, poppy but utterly bizarre, both these remixes are undoubtedly up there with James Blake's finest work, and this is a must-check 12" for both committed fans and those of us who might have lost the faith earlier in the day.
