Boomkat Product Review:
The strange case of DJ Stingray 313 unfolds - an artist, now in his 3rd decade of producing dance music, who only seems to sustain or get better with each new release?! He’s a rare one indeed.
Perhaps it’s because he’s stuck so fast to his guns over the years that Stingray has moved ever deeper into his style, practically defining the cutting edge of Detroit electro as he does so, or maybe it’s the undying need for his hard-ass DJ sets that requires he constantly makes new ammo? Either way, this man’s levels of consistency aren’t often paralleled.
On Communication System he transmits four heavyweight yet adroit missives, starting up with the chattering machine funk and suggestive, instrumental sci-fi tone of the title track before raising the electro panic level with Lurker.
Best of all, nay most crucial of all, is the amazing, dubbed-off hydraulix of IP Ping with its incredible, submerged dynamic toying your sense of rhythmic gratification and muscle memory, whilst Aubrey brings up the rear with a techno-calibrated remix of the title tune.
