Boomkat Product Review:
Collections 01 is the first instalment in a projected series from Teebs, showcasing his studio sketches and experiments; he's said he wants people to experience it like they would a rare library record they found in a thriftstore. It works on that level, no doubt, but it also functions terrifically well as an album proper; not only is the music up to scratch, it's also moulded together and sequenced with a strong sense of narrative. At just 23 years of age, shows a remarkable maturity as a producer, but coupled with a winning ranginess and irreverance befitting a young'n. The mood is dream-like, haunting at times, vivid always; the beats rugged and the melodies snakingly psychedelic, fleshed out by harpist Rebekah Raff and Brainfeeder's resident jazzer Austin Peralta. It's a heady brew, reommended to Brainfeeder nuts, obviously, but also Madlib, Mo Kolours, Paul White, Theo Parrish and other pursuers of the dusty basement sublime.
