Boomkat Product Review:
This collaboration follows a monthly file exchange program that went on between Stefan Joel Weisser and Peter Rehberg throughout 2005, culminating in a live performance at Colchester Arts centre in October 2006, eventually mixed and mastered earlier this year. These two giants of electronic experimentation sound remarkably like a single, focussed entity across this thirty-five minute piece (indexed conveniently into eleven individual tracks), clanking and droning its way through a scrapyard of electroacoustics and ominous vapours. It all begins with comparatively tempered howls and whispers, sounding much as you'd imagine a terminally ill humpback whale might. Gradually, more obviously digital elements and peculiar modulating effects arrive in the mix, combining with metallic resonances and frenzied, sonorous percussive gestures. This establishes a sense of accumulating tension that continues to build right up until the very final moments of the piece, when one last minute of sonic debris clatters around, functioning as an epilogue to the stormy clamour that came before.
