Boomkat Product Review:
Mathias Modica's Munk project follows up the single 'Live Fast! Die Old!' with a full-length boasting yet more vocal performances from (actor/director/daughter of Dario) Asia Argento and a guest spot on bass from The Rapture's Matty Safer. Modica (a co-founder of the highly regarded Gomma imprint) has gauged the current trend for all things disco very nicely, imposing his own spin on the freshly revitalised genre, often choosing slightly looser, slower tempos for a starting point, as is evident on 'Under Kontroll' which takes on more of a hip hop style pacing, and the chugging, Italo-influenced 'Bohemian Mud Strut'. More on that Asia Argento business though: what's she on about? We already know about her 'Live Fast! Die Old!' rant,, but she's just plain larking around elsewhere: on 'No Milk' she professes her disliking of milk and lemonade, even going so far as to exclaim "together they suck". That's sound cocktail advice, but possibly not grounds for hitting the record button in a studio. Still, the fact that it's Asia Argento probably makes this more acceptable than if some non-celeb civilian were responsible. Right? It certainly has its own kooky charms, anyway.
