Boomkat Product Review:
With two-thirds of the band having plunged into the urban sprawl of Brooklyn from pine scented serenity in rural Massachusetts, Mobius Band's first release on the superlative Ghostly International marks this collision in the EP's 'City 'vs.' Country' title. Occupying similar territory to The Midwest Project, Mobius Band are purveyors of glacial indie-tronica which is able to distil the portmanteau nature of the two parent genre's into freshly hewn nuggets of joyous pop. 'Start's of With A Bang' is a more upbeat take on the sensitive styling of The Go Find, with the song's repeated refrain of "sick of music" unlikely to be how you're felling once you've heard it, whilst 'Multiply' turns up the electronica and combines it with a glazed-eye vocal that brings to mind The Postal Service's Ben Gibbard. Closing with the Hammond coated 'I Had A Very Good Year', Mobius Band prove that classic pop sensibilities, post-rock influences and jittering electronica do have the right to co-exist and, on the basis of this EP, can live together quite happily in domestic bliss.
