Boomkat Product Review:
London's bright young hope for house traditionalists turns in only his 3rd EP to date with the 'City Shuffle EP' for Third Ear. It's hard to avoid the clamour of attention around this young fella, hailed as the saviour of deeper house traditions in the capital while all manner of young upstarts around him continue to brilliantly bastardize the style with new influences. Wbeeza sticks to his trusted styles on four tracks of stripped but soulful beats, from the burnished keys and crafty bass lick of 'Candle Groove' to the stripped Chicago rattle and electro synth of 'All6' on the a-side. Meanhile on the B, 'Hip Op' adds slightly more abstract tendencies with rainy textures and heavily filtered chords over solid kicks, and the club potential of 'All Those Beats' shows a mixture of South London bass weigh, soaring Detroit synths and a well-tutored ear for clubwise arrangements.
