Boomkat Product Review:
Classic punk manoeuvres from this Jackson, Mississippi band on Goner. Overnight Lows were formed by duo Marsh and Daphne Nabors, both formerly of The Comas, who split in the mid-nineties. City Of Rotten Eyes marks a comeback of sorts then, and sounds brilliantly like it could have been made at any time in the past thirty years or so, full of snarling, splenetic attitude built upon Ramones-styled power chord foundations. It's refreshing to hear something as timeless as this given the influx of reverb-battered garage rock that does the rounds these days. There's still something suitably lo-fi and rickety about this band's sound but that never gets in the way of properly articulating the raw energy behind blistering ninety-second opuses like 'Lipstick Burns' and 'Bad Times'.
