Boomkat Product Review:
One of Dubstep's leading-edge producers drops his second album proper, featurng guest production from Skream, Von D and Truth. While he may not have the pop cache of Skream or Benga, Silkie has steadily forged a distinct, and hugely respected identity within his scene over a string of acclaimed 12"s for Deep Medi, Soul Jazz and Disfigured Dubz. 'City Limits Volume 2' opens to the rainy day Dubstep mood of 'Feel', produced with Truth, and a sweeter number 'Snowed In' alongside Von D, before flying solo on the propulsive Boogie-Techno badness of 'Get Up N Dance', the Grimy lash of 'Rock Da Funk' and the big man strut of 'New York City'. Working with Skream on 'Untitled' they arrive at a nuclear halfstep conclusion, topped with Silkie's signature boogie flourishes, but quite honestly, the man sounds best when working solo. Just see the lethal junglist shoulder roll of 'Selva Nova', the duppied flex of 'Taxi Me Get' or the bumptious slide of 'Boogie Boy' for proof.
