Boomkat Product Review:
Circle Traps make their debut appearance with four beautifully dextrous productions on Subeena's Opit imprint. The group features members of London jazz group Portico Quartet and have already found favour with Gilles Peterson (who else?!), and now Subeena who contributes a boldly dynamic remix. The standout feature must be 'Fjord'. Defined by its frosted sound sphere, it's a delicate orchestration of 2-step dynamics and deft melodic movements with the timeless freshness of a Steve Reich composition. fans of Throwing Snow should be all over this! 'Bo! Symbol' is more percussively febrile, connecting with their Jazz background in forward thinking style, while 'Mirrors and Monuments' opens out into widescreen IDM mode. With vocals by Swedish songstress Cornelia Dahlgren, they make burnished downbeats on 'Perspex, Glass', but much more impressive is Subeena's remix, augmentng the jazz skronk of 'Bo! Symbol' with robust, rounded electrobass and streamlined House patterning.
