Long awaited, bolshy debut album from South London’s Kamixlo, defining their industrialized blend of dembow, doomcore and emo metal for PAN after incursions made on their Codes series and bangers for Bala Club
After a string of cult cuts, Kamixlo’s debut album sees him condense personal experience of loss in recent years into a shredded soundclash of references to his Chilean heritage, wrestling, and nu metal, all held down with the kind of scything rhythms and ravishing dynamics that have served him very well since emerging around five years ago and making a rep with clubnight, Endless.
The Endless connection ties in Felix Lee on album highlight ‘Demonic Y’, and cloud rap producer Woesum guests on the bittersweet dembow tang of ‘Azucar’, but left to his own devices Kamixlo kills it with the blast beat bashment of ‘The Burning Hammer Bop’ - named after a mad wrestling move - while ‘Cicatriz’ (and ‘Cicatriz X’) takes its title from Spanish for ‘Scar’ and comes off like Citrac-era Ferraro Muscleworks meets DJ Scud on a dembow tip, and the ratty bam bam and digital noise of ‘Destruction’ takes Jonathan Davis to a neo-Blade style rave scene.
Big RIYL Kelman Duran, Croww, Endgame, Z’ev, Limp Bizkit
