Boomkat Product Review:
The prodigal one returns with his first new 12” of this decade! Safe to say it was worth the wait…
Uptown, he’s on a slamming, psychedelic tribal tip with Chubby Knuckles, racking up precision banging Dutch kick drums under squirrelly licks of flute and woozy funk guitar, quite happy to dance on the spot for the duration and exploring every integer of the loop’s harmonic depth and gauze with a totally locked in and loving it effect. Just wait for the drop, lol.
Downtown he gets seriously heavy lidded with 42, depressing the tempo to a c.100bpm slump but raising the spirits with billowing sheets of radiant chords. Again, there’s no spectacle or showing off, just a keening, looped groove that could happily play out for days on end and you’d never get tired of it. The square-bass knot of 42 (Yoga Outro) at the end is like a kiss on the forehead from MDMA-sprinkled lips.
So lush. So vital.
