Boomkat Product Review:
Still bleeding from their ultra-violent debut album, Russia’s WWWINGS turn up on Purple Tape Pedigree with three brutalist but stately club de-constructions plus a brace of compatibly crushing remixes from Endgame, Eaves and Letta.
These tracks feel slightly more tempered than the chaotic Phoenix album, arriving via the smoothly orchestrated synstring vectors of Chimera, which soon enough calves away into quasi-speed doom and raging cunty bounce, followed by the ‘90s trance and fractious, experimental ‘floor drill of Wyvern, before Zmey ropes Geng and Bobby Johnson to the team for a samurai-skilled slice ‘em up.
New York’s Eaves cues up Chimera as a frantic, speedcore-induced club blitzer; Letta flips Wyvern into a nano-rhythmic flux of swoosh dynamic and insectoid patter; best of all, Endgame renders Chimera as a cranky dembow charge cloaked in growling drones and lush but sore trance arpeggios.
Sealed for freshness by Jeremy Cox mastering.
