Boomkat Product Review:
Kenya's Nguuni Lovers Lovers set off Moshi Moshi's new outernational imprint, Dream Beach with a pair of absolute charms. This groundbreaking label has been set up as a much needed outlet for contemporary African and non-western music in the UK, pioneering a representation of the tastes and ethnic/musical diversity of this country. Both songs are of the Kamba style, a fast, repetitive and sweetly melodic style native to Nguuni Lovers Lovers' region and hometown of Mlolongo. 'Cheza Ngoma' - roughly translated as "dance to the music" heats up the A-side with quick, sugary, choppy guitars and percolating beat with a curious vamp sounding like some lickle junglist stab. 'Beth Kathini' takes the other side with a more swaggering yet slightly melancholy sort of groove. So lovely!
