Boomkat Product Review:
'Cherish The Lights Years' is the boldest statement yet from one of our very favourite bands, Cold Cave. Headed by Wes Eisold and bolstered by a brace of session musicians, their latest album was recorded in a proper studio and therefore has a near-exponential increase in production values since 'Cremations', and even 'Love Comes Close', but, you'll be glad to know, has lost none of their misanthropic charm. In interview Wes acknowledges a need for evolution, and of taking advantage of the means afforded to him to really articulate his lyrics, resulting in a brash, yet highly refined collection linked by an unwavering vision and new found confidence. Explicitly inspired by night time walks in New York, and osmotically influenced by everyone from The Teardrop Explodes to Depeche Mode, New Order and Chris and Cosey, this album is a ecstatic, exhilarating experience stepping so far beyond the tentative pastiche of so many other children of the '80s, who we won't name. This is going to be on rotation for a long time round these parts. Highly recommended!
