Chain Reaction At Dusk
Prepared piano virtuoso and 0PN collaborator Kelly Moran teams up with power electronics chameleon Prurient on this unexpected, cinematic split. Tears at the end of the world business, connecting the dots between two very different artists.
The story behind this is that Moran and Fernow met while both featured as part of 0PN's touring band and immediately bonded over their love of experimental piano music. Moran has long championed the influence of John Cage on her synapse-popping prepared piano experiments and Fernow chopped up Erik Satie jammers on his early Prurient tapes, so the two hit it off and ended up touring together with Merzbow, naturally.
'Chain Reaction at Dusk' juxtaposes two very different compositional approaches. Moran's side explores her trippy cinematic leanings - heard peeking out from 2018's restrained "Ultraviolet" - melting metallic prepared piano chimes into a bed of glimmering synth arpeggios. Fernow's contributions are naturally darker, but make use of similar instrumentation, with Fernow's voice cracking over analog synth trances recorded at Shifted's Berlin studio.
